Install seatpost correctly

Before you start

Our suspension seatpost fits almost any bike thanks to the included adapters. The base diameter is 27.2 mm, adapters for 30.9 mm, 31.6 mm, and 34.9 mm are included. Measure the inner diameter of your seat tube before installation — it is usually marked directly on the frame.

Remove old seatpost

Open the seat clamp with the appropriate Allen key (usually 5 mm) and pull the old seatpost with saddle upwards. Remember the current saddle height beforehand — the easiest way is with a piece of tape.

Pro tip Is the post stuck? Spray some rust remover on the clamp area and wait 5 minutes.

Clean seat tube

Thoroughly wipe the inside and outside of the seat tube with a clean cloth. Dirt and old grease residues prevent the new post from fitting correctly.

Choose the correct adapter

Measure the inner diameter of your seat tube. The Alpensattel seatpost is 27.2 mm — if your tube has a different diameter, use the matching adapter from the package.

Important The adapter must be fully pushed over the post before you insert it. Pushing it on afterward will damage the clamp.

Insert seatpost

Slide the seatpost straight into the seat tube. Make sure to observe the minimum insertion depth — the "MIN INSERT" marking must be completely inside the frame. Then set your usual saddle height.

Safety The seatpost must be inserted at least up to the marking inside the frame. Otherwise, it can break.

Mount & align saddle

Place the saddle on the upper clamp and align it straight — parallel to the top tube. Tighten the screws evenly in a cross pattern. Then set the tilt angle: a horizontally aligned saddle is ideal for most riders.

Adjust suspension

Use the adjustment ring at the bottom of the seatpost to tailor the damping to your weight and riding style. Turning clockwise = firmer, counterclockwise = softer.

Adjustment recommendation First, ride a test route with a medium setting. If the post compresses a lot when you sit down — make it firmer. If you don’t feel any damping — make it softer.

Frequently Asked Questions

My seatpost slips down — what should I do?

Tighten the seat clamp on the frame a bit more. If that’s not enough, check if you are using the correct adapter and if the clamping surface is grease-free. For carbon frames: use special carbon assembly paste, no grease.

Which direction is "firmer" on the adjustment ring?

Turning clockwise makes the suspension firmer, counterclockwise softer. The ring usually has a "+" and "−" marking.

Can I also install the seatpost in a carbon frame?

Yes — but use a special carbon assembly paste instead of grease and tighten the seat clamp only to the torque recommended by the manufacturer (usually 4-5 Nm).

How high should the seatpost be adjusted?

Rule of thumb: With your heels on the pedals, your legs should be fully extended at the lowest pedal position. When riding with the balls of your feet on the pedals, there should be a slight bend in the knee.
